"Day trippers return" Oil painting - size 890x645mm
The Days Bay ferry, Duchess is just coming into its berth having returned from Eastbourne with a boat load of people who have enjoyed a day at the bay. Queens Wharf lies behind and tied up at the outer T is the Union Steam Ship Company’s Lyttelton ferry Rotomahana in the last years of her active service during the first decade of the 20th Century.

A New Zealand built Standard railcar displaying original livery is about to resume its journey sometime in the late 1930s. Passengers were always well dressed in earlier decades when travelling; and trains and railcars stopped to provide refreshments rather than have dining facilities on board.

Based on a photograph by William Travers, this painting depicts an early passenger train heading for the Hutt Valley within a year of the opening of the railway service.

A south bound tram is travelling from the city centre along Mt Eden Road en route to Three Kings during the 1950s. Mt Eden is on the skyline behind the suburban shopping centre. Auckland trams were replaced by buses after December 1956.
"Pamir at the heads" watercolour painting size 490x447mm
Flying the Finnish Flag, the Pamir enters Wellington Heads in July 1941. On arrival the ship was seized as a prize of war by the New Zealand Government. From then until 1948 the Pamir sailed under the New Zealand Flag. She was eventually returned to her owners, setting sail from Wellington in February 1949 on her delivery voyage home, never to return.
